The Bridge Navigational Watch Alarm System (BNWAS) ensures the presence and alertness of watch officers for early detection of unsafe conditions. The JCX-161 features a 4.5-inch dimmable LCD with dual LED backlight (white and orange) and backlit keys, ensuring clear visibility in all lighting conditions on the bridge.

The system includes an emergency call function that activates all alarms (buzzers) and an officer call feature to notify backup officers during the second-stage alarm. It supports both automatic and manual operation. In automatic mode, the countdown starts when the ship’s heading control systems (TCS/HCS) are active, while manual mode allows continuous countdown operation.

In anchorage mode, the system can be turned off, but critical functions such as emergency calls, officer calls, and bridge alarm transfers remain active.
