Secure Uninterrupted VHF Connectivity in the Port of Antwerp and Terneuzen.

This port notice highlights the IMO Circular Letter No. 4791, released on 17 October 2023, regarding the communication from the Governments of Belgium and the Netherlands. 

  1. Effective 1 January 2024, vessels using the Kieldrecht lock at the Port of Antwerp will switch from VHF channel 88 to VHF channel 1027 (27L)
  2. Additionally, a new lock (Nieuwe Sluis Terneuzen) at the port of Terneuzen, located alongside the Scheldt River and adjacent to the existing two locks, is expected to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2024. From 1 October 2024, vessels using this new lock are strongly advised to utilize VHF voice channel 1028 (28L), as mandated by the authorities. Ships unable to use channel 1028 (28L) will not be permitted to pass through the lock.

Shipowners and operators should review this. Vessels planning to enter or operate in these areas are advised to consult their VHF equipment manufacturers to ensure compliance with these changes and to take the necessary steps to meet the requirements by retrofitting to the NVR-3000 below.
